Creation of a VR simulator to replicate the patient intake process for a medical university
The SimbirSoft team developed a VR simulator that allows students to learn the patient intake process in real-time.
The simulator helped them develop clinical thinking and improve their communication skills. Previously inexperienced students often faced challenges when interacting with real patients. The use of such a simulator ensured better preparation for future doctors.
In the future, it will contribute to improving the quality of medical care and the implementation of innovative teaching methods in the educational process.
We created the design of a virtual doctor's office. Together with the client's staff, we formulated a scenario that reflects the key actions of the doctor according to regulatory documents. Based on the agreed scenario, we developed the VR simulator. In the simulation, users acquire skills in conducting medical examinations of patients.
Customer
Client: Medical University
Product
Business Goal: To leverage virtual reality technology for training students in the patient intake process.
Development Goal: To create an immersive VR simulator that effectively trains students in medical procedures.
Task
We developed a virtual doctor's office and collaborated with the client's team to create a scenario that accurately reflects the essential actions of a physician in accordance with regulatory guidelines. Based on this agreed-upon scenario, we built the VR simulator.
The simulation equips users with the skills necessary to perform a medical examination on a patient.
The VR simulator replicates the patient intake process, guiding users from the initial introduction to diagnosis and recommendations.
Stages
-
Scenario Formalization and Approval: Finalizing the simulator scenario and its visual concept (3 days)
-
Scenario Prototyping: Developing the simulator mechanics (2 weeks)
-
Scene Creation: Designing the visual elements of the application, including UI and 3D objects (2 weeks, conducted concurrently with scenario prototyping)
-
Client Feedback Integration: Refining the prototype into a comprehensive product (1 week)
-
Testing and Revisions: Conducting thorough testing and making necessary adjustments (2 weeks)
Result
- Medical students utilizing the VR simulator undergo training that closely mirrors real-life scenarios with diverse options.
- This immersive experience psychologically prepares students for interactions with patients.
- During accreditation, students who trained with the VR simulator received higher evaluations from examiners.
- Students reported improved communication skills with actual patients after their training in the simulator.
