Creation of a VR simulator for evacuation from an oil platform
Training is essential for the effectiveness of evacuation and rescue operations.
While onshore training activities contribute to the development of emergency response specialists' competencies, they represent only a fraction of the overall training process. Regular offshore practice and assessment through targeted exercises, drills, and scenarios are crucial for comprehensive skill development.
Training providers acknowledge that while onshore activities are valuable, they do not fully replicate real-life situations. To address this gap, SimbirSoft has developed an advanced VR simulator that enhances the training experience.
Customer
A large industrial enterprise for oil production.
Product
The objective of the business is to equip employees with the necessary skills to respond effectively during emergencies and to instruct them on the appropriate actions to take in such situations.
In the context of development, the goal is to create a realistic VR simulator that will effectively train employees to execute logically sound actions in emergency scenarios.
We developed a design for a virtual environment inspired by references from an actual oil drilling station.
Collaborating closely with the company's engineers, we crafted a scenario that highlights critical operational procedures during emergency response situations.
Utilizing this agreed-upon scenario, we created an advanced VR simulator that enables the company's employees to effectively practice their emergency response actions.
Task
Development of a VR simulator that will enable users to practice operational actions in accordance with safety protocols.
Stages
-
Design and approval of the simulator scenario and its visual concept (3 days).
-
Prototyping the scenario in the form of simulator mechanics (2 weeks).
-
Creating a scene for the simulator, including the visual components of the entire application—from the user interface to 3D objects to populate the scene (2 weeks, running parallel to scenario prototyping).
-
Making client-requested edits based on the prototype and developing a complete product (1 week).
-
Testing and making edits following the scenario (2 weeks).
Result
Using a VR simulator, employees can practice emergency response actions. This training will enhance their ability to navigate and execute well-rehearsed procedures during a real emergency situation.
