Avactis - Data Import/Export

Avactis Shopping Cart – Data Import/Export is a module allowing importing and exporting of large amounts of data to and from an installed Avactis Shopping Cart.

PROBLEM:

In all web applications there is a time-out problem. That means the application processes one incoming HTTP request within some limited time only. There appears a problem with time-consuming operations such as export of product base consisting of thousands of products. The task to develop a mechanism for operations of the kind was set.

SOLUTION:

A special AJAX technology was developed to enable Avactis run prolonged operations. Now there is no time limit for either import or export of a product base consisting of thousands of records. Successful experiments in import of tax rate base consisting of 700,000 records were carried out.

General component description:

Avactis Shopping Cart – Data Import/Export is a module allowing importing and exporting of large amounts of data to and from an installed Avactis Shopping Cart using CSV files. While working on the project, a solution for the time-out problem of databases with a large number of records was found. Data Import/Export can work with any kind of information. To visualize the process for the user, a Progress Bar showing the operation progress without any details is displayed. After receiving another response from the server, depending on the processed data and the data to be processed, the progress bar speed increases or decreases.
